Water & climate: Latin American connections
I would like to bring your attention to a new project which will conduct socioeconomic studies of the links between water and climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Program on Governance and Socioeconomics of Environmental Goods and Services (GSEBSA) at CATIE, with financial support from the Climate Change and Water Program of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada, just launched a new project called “Strengthening the capacity building and research in environmental economics to study the links between water and climate change”. This project is a three year collaboration between LACEEP, EfD-CA, and the CEDE at the Universidad de Los Andes, Colombia.

Climate change is recognised as one of the most significant threats to development during the 21st Century and beyond. Infrastructure policymakers and practitioners have a crucial role to play in meeting the challenge of climate change in the developing word. This applies both to mitigation, i.e. reducing greenhouse gas emissions in ways that facilitate continued growth and sustained poverty reduction; and to adaptation, i.e. protecting vulnerable populations from the impacts of climate change.
