New features on the site include country profiles which contain maps, graphs, videos, and additional resources that offer a closer look at population, gender, and climate change trends in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nepal, and Peru.

drought & climate forum

In the upcoming Fourth Drought Adaptation Forum organized by UNISDR Regional Office for Africa and UNDP DDC from 13 to 14 October 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya, we will discuss among other topics "gaps and challenges in existing funding mechanisms for long-term drought mitigation measures". It is often mentioned that while there is development funding and humanitarian funding, there is no funding mechanism in place which can be activated when very early predictions are received that a drought might happen. In the case of the current Horn of Africa drought, first indications were received late 2010, but little early action followed. One reason for this could be that it is difficult to fund long-term drought mitigation measures. Read More...
