Climate change and development conference
Vredespaleis, The Hague, The Netherlands
3rd Conference on adaptation to climate change in developing countries
The last two years several Dutch humanitarian and development NGOs organised a conference on adaptation to climate change in developing countries. Goal of the conferences was to share experiences on adaptation of NGO practitioners, scientists, government officials and companies and to forward thinking on adaptation practice. By workshops focussing on themes (e.g. water, health, disasters) and regions (e.g., Africa, South-East Asia) we explored the impacts and consequences of climate change for developing countries. Hydrology research fellowships
Graduate training in hydrologic science typically focuses on a single field site or modeling approach. To assist graduate students in enriching their research program by moving beyond this “one site, one view,” CUAHSI is providing travel support for graduate students to make an extended visit (ca. 1-3 months) to conduct field research at an additional site or to collaborate with a research group using alternate modeling methods. CUAHSI will provide funding for up to five graduate students, with a $5000 maximum award to each recipient, to cover travel costs. Read More...
Freshwater conservation research fellowships: PhD & postdoc levels
Advancing Conservation through Science
WWF-US is pleased to announce the availability of Kathryn Fuller Fellowships for 2010. Deltas in a time of climate change
Deltas have a lot to offer. They are close to the sea and inland waterways. Their soils are fertile. They are therefore the base of many large and fast growing cities. But as populations grow, deltas and their cities are becoming more vulnerable. Floods, land subsidence, traffic congestion, air pollution and salt intrusion loom up as common threats. Climate change aggravates these problems.
The conference will be held in Rotterdam, since Rotterdam is at the forefront of climate adaptation: it turns challenges into opportunities and takes integrated measures to create a safer city and region. This strategy will result in a more attractive city to live, recreate, work and invest in. Read More...
